Tips on Assembling Your Juicer
The operating manual provides instructions on how to take apart and reassemble your machine. The following steps help describe what part to use when:
For vegetable and fruit juice:
To assemble the machine for juicing:
1. First slide the twin gears housing on the tracks on the body.
2. Take the twin gears and match the dots (the single dot on the "male" gear fits inside of the pair of dots on the "female" gear). Slide the gears into their slots, twisting gently and pressing into place.
3. Slide the fine screen over the end of the gears with the thinner opening toward the front.
4. Slide the pulp discharge casing over screen and bring both latching arms into place, tightening the latching arm knobs securely. There shouldn't be space between the twin gears housing and the body of the machine.
5. Screw in the outlet adjusting knob, not too tight, to allow the pulp to exit the pulp discharge outlet.
6. Place the tray and the glass pitcher under the juice outlet.
7. Put a bowl under the pulp discharge outlet to catch the pulp.
8. Begin juicing.
For vegetable or fruit sauces, coarser blended grains or nuts, nut butters, nut loafs, patés, baby food, frubets or sorbet:
1. To assemble the machine for homogenizing, first slide the twin gears housing on the tracks on the body.
2. Take the twin gears and match the dots (the single dot on the "male" gear fits inside the pair of dots on the "female" gear). Slide gears into their slots, twisting gently and pressing into place.
3. Slide the open blank or homogenizing blank (with the thinner side toward the front of the machine) over the end of the gears, thin panel toward the front. This is the only screen that has to be put in a certain way. If the thick side is toward the front, it blocks some of the flow of the food exiting the outlet machine.
4. Slide pulp discharge casing over screen and bring both latching arms into place, tightening the latching arm knobs securely. There should not be any space between the twin gears housing and the body of the machine.
5. Screw in the outlet adjusting knob, tightly. (Note: this is an optional step. If the knob is not put in place, the food will come out the pulp discharge outlet as well as the juice outlet. If this is preferred, be sure the bowl underneath is large enough to catch the food from both outlets.)
6. Put a bowl under the juice outlet, to catch the food. If the outlet adjusting knob is in place, nothing should come out the pulp discharge outlet.
For finer blended grains or nuts, nut butters, nut loaves, patés, baby food, frubet or sorbet:
There are two preparation methods: Either the food can come out the pulp discharge outlet or it can be sculpted by using the rice cake guide.
3. Slide the closed blank (rice cake attachment) over the end of the gears.
4. Slide the pulp discharge casing over the blank and bring the latching arms into place, tightening the latching arm knobs securely. There should not be any space between the twin gears housing and the body of the machine.
5. Optional: screw in the rice cake guide, tightly.
6. Put a bowl under the pulp discharge outlet or the rice cake guide opening, to catch the food. If you are using the closed blank (rice cake attachment), nothing should come out the juice outlet.
High pitched squealing sound?
The squeaking, it comes from an inner seal on the drive shaft. If you disassemble your juicer where the motor is standing all alone, you will see a green seal around the drive shaft. Now there is one other green seal just like that one on the other side of the plastic housing on the same drive shaft. This this is the seal that is making the noise, it will loosen up as you use the juicer. Nothing to worry about, it just means you got a new juicer, with tight seals. This is good.
Quick Fix: Put a small amount of olive oil on the shaft under the outer seal by using a toothpick to lift the outer edge of the seal very carefully. After this is accomplished run the motor in reverse, this should quite the squealing sound. If not, call a service technician at 1-888-254-7336
Why does the noise of the juicer oscillate up and down?
The nose of the juicer will oscillate up and down because you maybe forcing product through the juicer faster then it is able to handle it. Remember these juicers are geared at 110 rpm to save the enzymes and they do not move as fast as a centrifugal juicer at (3400 rpm's). So take a couple deep breaths and start again but this time slow down just a bit until you get the rhythm of the juicer. You might have to clean out the juicing chamber, and fine or course screen if the juicer has been oscillating.
Why is everything backing up into the feed chute?
This problem happens to a lot of people have when they first start using the Green Power juicers. When you get to the stage where everything is backing up, it's too late. At this point you have to disassemble the juicer, unplug the screen and clean off all the pulp. What a mess. I know I've had to do this myself. After the juicer is all cleaned up and you are ready to go again, here is what I want you to do. Loosen the Outlet Adjustment Knob one full turn for apples/pears and 3 full turns for citrus. Then start putting in slices of apples, pears, citrus whatever, letting the juicer do the work. What I mean by this is don't force anything through the juicer. Learn what I call the rhythm of the juicer. The idea is that you are not to do the work, the juicer is. A light pressure up and down will do, no force is required. The more force that you use, the more your juicer will plug up. Remember your screen inside the juicer should be almost as clean as it was when you started. If not, you are provbably forcing the product through the juicer -- lighten up. :- )
If I get something caught between the gears what should I do?
Stop the juicer and tap the "ON-OFF-REVERSE" switch into Reverse position. This will free any item the might be caught between the gears.
How do I use the "Outlet Adjustment Knob" for fruits?
Before you start the juicer, loosen the outlet adjustment knob on the nose of the juicer 1 - 3 full turn depending type of fruit being used. Generally 1 full turn for apples and up to 3 full turns for citrus. Then turn the juicer on, place sliced apples or any other assorted fruit in the feeding chute. Using the wooden plunger lightly press the fruit down and into the twin gears. Now wait for the pulp to discharge out the nose of the juicer. If the pulp feels wet, tighten the knob just a little until you get the desired dryness. If the pulp is not coming out at all, loosen the outlet adjustment knob until the pulp starts flowing freely. After you achieve the desired dryness and the pulp is flowing freely, then and only then can you start juicing. Always remember -- don't force the product (fruit or vegetables) through the juicer. This only clogs the fine or course filtering screens.
How do I use the "Soft Fruit Adjustment Knob" for fruits?
The soft fruit adjustment knob is a convenience item. The only difference between the soft fruit knob and the outlet knob is that the soft fruit knob has a lighter duty spring. With the soft fruit knob you should not have to loosen the knob to get the pulp to flow freely. Be aware that every once in a while the spring in the soft fruit knob may be slightly stronger than normal, and you might have to loosen the knob slightly to get the knob to function properly.
Why does my screen plug up?
Whenever you are juicing with the Green Power or the Green Star juicer, always remember that this juicer is geared at 110 rpm to save the vital enzymes in your fruits and vegetables. For this reason you have to let the juicer do the juicing. What we mean by this is that whenever you are juicing, do not force the product (fruit or vegetables) through this juicer. This is the number one thing that clogs up the screen -- pushing more products through than the juicer is able to handle. If this happens (and some times it does when you start using the Green Power or Green Star for the first time), what you need to do is slow down, take 3 deep breaths, and start again. This time let the juicer do the work. When feeding any product into the juicer, always remember that a light up and down motion with either the wooden or plastic plunger would be the preferred method.
Which screen do I use?
Generally the Fine Screen is for vegetables and the Course Screen is for fruit. However the course screen will give you more pulp, so you might want to try the fine screen even when doing fruit. If you do use the fine screen with fruit, you might have to loosen the soft fruit adjustment knob or outlet adjustment knob just a little bit more.
How do I juice wheatgrass or leafy greens?
When juicing wheat grass or leafy greens it always depends on the quality of the product that you are using. What we mean is is that you should always use fresh and well hydrated products when using this or any juicer. Make sure that the product that you are using is well hydrated and that the product is not past its prime. You have to remember you are dealing with just a thin blade of grass or leaf. Trying to extract moisture from a dehyrated item is next to impossible. 99% of the time what you will get is foam instead of a liquid when juicing a product that is old and limp.
Why do I get foam when juicing wheat grass or leafy greens?
Foam is caused by lack of moisture in your wheat grass or leafy greens. You might want to juice one or two carrots before juicing wheat grass or leafy greens. This will do two things: First cut the foam down and second you will use less leafy greens and less wheat grass from your flat. You will get more servings per flat instead of 3 servings you will get 4 servings. Often times people will juice carrots first and then immeditely juice wheatgrass or leafy greens without cleaning the juicing chamber. Try this and see if it doesn't help!
Cracking?
Always remember finger tight is all you need when tightening the Latching Arm Knobs or the Outlet Adjustment Knob. If you over tighten any of these knobs cracking may occur.
If cracks occur on the outside of any plastic housing piece, rest assured you can still use the juicers for juicing.

Cleaning Tips
Cleaning the Green Power machine is a breeze. A friend of mine told me that the first time he cleaned his machine he timed himself, expecting it to take a half an hour or so. It took him seven minutes, and he was a beginner. I have been using the machine for over 12 years, and I can take it apart, wash it and reassemble it again in five minutes.
Note: Do not put any parts of the machine into the dishwasher.
The Green Power and the Green Star machines are so easy to clean because its features were built with convenience in mind. First, the parts slide easily on and off. Second, there are no sharp blades or parts to cut your fingers.
Here are some suggestions on how to make cleaning quick and efficient:
1. To remove stubborn stains from the twin gears, such as carrot juice, before disassembling the machine alternate putting some of the carrot pulp with granulated white sugar through the feeding chute and over the twin gears. This gives the twin gears a quick shine.
Or, run soaked almonds through the machine with the open or closed blank to bring the whiteness back to the tip of the gears. Really stubborn stains can be whitened by soaking the gears in white wine vinegar.
2. Rinse with cool water before disassembling the machine. With the machine turned on, pour water down the feeding chute. Place a large bowl under the machine to catch the water from the lower and front-end openings.
3. Disassemble the machine apart as soon as the food processing is finished and soak the parts in warm or cool water. Do not put the parts in the dishwasher.
4. Put a bowl or the empty pitcher under the area where the twin gears are attached to the machine and splash the gears with water. This is the simplest and quickest way to clean this area. I like to use a nasal syringe or glass to splash water on this part. Food often gets stuck here after the rest of the parts have been removed. The cleaning brush and water can be used for those difficult or sticky foods such as grains and nuts. Be sure to leave a bowl underneath to catch any droppings.
5. A chopstick or other narrow tool works well to push food through the pulp discharge outlet.
Stain Zapper
Color Stains and mineral deposits on the juicer parts may appear from normal usage of your juicer. To remove the stain and deposits, try the following.
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons of Baking Soda
2 cups of luke warm water
Soak the parts in the solution of water and baking soda overnight to loosen the mineral deposits and to remove the color stains. The next morning wash all parts with a soap and water using a hard bristled brush to remove any mineral deposits that might remain. Wipe off with a dry cloth.
Quick Cleaning
When you are in a hurry, here is a quick way to clean your Green Power or Green Star juicer while still fully assembled: First, right after your juicing session while your juicer is still running, pour 2 large glasses of warm water down the feed chute. Second, place a small amount of dishwashing soap into a large glass with medium hot water and pour this hot soapy solution down the feeding chute. Finally, rinse with medium hot water 2 or 3 times. This process should insure that your juicer is sanitary and clean. You should, however, frequently disassemble the juicer for a thorough cleaning.
Are these juicers dishwasher safe?
NO - Never place any of the juicer parts in your dishwasher. The drying cycle will distort your juicer parts.
How do I remove the staining on the plastic parts of my juicer?
Well to make a long story short, it really can not be removed. I've tried every way possible. You have to remember plastic is porous and juicer tends seep inside the pores of the plastic which causes the staining. As long as you wash your juicer with warm soap water and air dry these parts, staining does not present a health problem. I know it just does not look very nice. But remember it's on the inside of the juicer so when the juicer is fully assembled you will not see the staining.
Can I use bleach to help remove the stains?
Do not use bleach on any part of this juicer, to try and remove the staining. Bleach will eat away at the plastic and cause the part to crack and fall apart.
Can I use a metal brush to help remove the stains?
No, I wouldn't. A metal brush will eat away at plastic and cause the plastic to crack and fall apart.
Well can I use the metal brush on the stainless steel gears?
No, the twin gears have plastic on them also.
What is Far-Infrared and Magnetic Technology?
In addition to keeping more enzymes intact because of less heat and friction, the Green Power also utilizes bioceramic and magnetic technologies, which helps to add more positive ions and vitality to minerals in the juice. Here's how it works: at the core of each of the twin gears is a series of magnets. The magnets are each three-quarters of an inch long and are alternated between positive and negative. When the two gears are placed side-by-side, the positive and negative magnets are also alternated between the gears, which generates a positive charge, or attraction. At the molecular level, this means the magnets are creating positive ions as the gears spin.
Surrounding the inner core of magnets is a second level containing bioceramic particles and an outer layer of stainless steel. Bioceramic particles, produced by far-infrared technology, also emit positive ions. Magnets in the Green Power work in conjunction with these bioceramic particles. The magnets recharge the bioceramic material and the bioceramic material recharges the magnets. Without this recharging, the effect of both the magnets and the bioceramic material each would eventually be diminished.
As the gears are spinning, the magnets and the bioceramic material are each producing more positive ions than can be held in charge by either the magnets or bioceramic material, therefore many of these positive ions go into the juice. These additional positive ions add more vitality and longevity to the life of the minerals, which reduces oxidation and keeps the juice fresher longer.
